Investigators from the York Regional Police Hold-Up Unit have charged five men in connection with an armed home invasion in the City of Vaughan, and believe they are part of a larger criminal network.
On December 24, 2023, at 1:52 a.m., police received a report of an ongoing home invasion in the Forest Drive and Harmonia Crescent area. Three masked suspects forcibly entered the residence, assaulted and held the occupants at gunpoint while demanding money. When officers arrived, they encountered the suspects, and during the interaction, an officer discharged their firearm multiple times. One suspect was arrested, while two others fled the scene. A loaded firearm was dropped by one of the suspects and seized. No one was seriously injured, but the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has invoked their mandate.
As officers approached the home, a black sedan was seen leaving the area. Investigators later determined this vehicle had been stolen during an armed carjacking in Calgary on November 10, 2023.
Further investigation led to the identification and charging of four additional suspects, resulting in a combined 37 criminal charges. An additional firearm, a sawed-off shotgun, was also seized.
Investigators are releasing photos of the accused, as they believe they are part of a larger criminal network and may only be known by their street names. They are appealing to the public for any witnesses to come forward.
The five individuals charged are:
Lorrin WOLFE, 33, of Onion Lake First Nation, Saskatchewan
Ali MOHAMMED, 26, of City of Toronto
Kesworth BASSARAGH, 32, of City of Toronto
Jamie Lee TOOTOOSIS, 36, of Onion Lake First Nation, Saskatchewan
Elcee JIMMY, 35, of Thunderchild First Nation, Saskatchewan
At the time of the home invasion, WOLFE was wanted by multiple police agencies out west for unrelated criminal offences and was bound by three weapons prohibition orders. BASSARAGH was on parole and was bound by two weapons prohibition orders. TOOTOOSIS was bound by two weapons prohibition orders.
