A pedestrian was killed after being struck by a GO train in Richmond Hill Friday evening.

York Regional Police say they were called shortly after 6 p.m. to a railway crossing near Elgin Mills and Newkirk Roads, north of Richmond Hill GO station. Responding crews found a person with critical injuries who was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Const. Kevin Nebrija, media relations officer for York Regional Police, said CN Rail police will lead the investigation and that the circumstances do not appear suspicious.

The last two northbound trains were replaced by shuttle buses between Richmond Hill GO and Gormley and Bloomington GO stations.
